One of the reasons I love this burger recipe is its flexibility. Made traditionally, you grill the burgers as you would any other and then top with blue cheese. However, since the recipe calls for using blue cheese crumbles, you can mix things up and literally mix in the blue cheese crumbles with the ground beef and pork sausage. Then, you can top with additional blue cheese, so the burger is cheesy inside and out.

Serve with our recipe for homemade low-carb hamburger buns, and you’ve got a meal that no one will know you make for keto reasons. They’ll think you just flipped some burgers on the grill and served up something delicious. Net carbs never even need to enter the conversation. But if you care to share, these burgers on their own are only 3 g net carbs per serving.

Equipment

Ingredient Notes

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 pound ground sweet Italian pork sausage no casings
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup white onion very finely minced
  • 4 cloves garlic very finely minced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh rosemary stems removed and leaves finely minced
  • Sea salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 ounces Blue cheese crumbled

Toppings (Optional)

  • Leaf lettuce
  • Tomato sliced
  • Avocado sliced

Instructions

  1. Clean grill grates and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Preheat grill to high.
  2. Add ground beef, sausage, Worcestershire sauce, onion, garlic and rosemary to a large glass bowl. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste, and combine thoroughly using clean hands. Make sure both types of meat and all seasonings are completely incorporated throughout the mixture.
  3. Divide meat mixture into 8 equal parts and shape each part into approximately three-quarter-inch thick patties. Place patties on a lined tray and use your thumb to create an indent in the middle to keep them from puffing up while cooking. You can also tuck extra blue cheese crumbles in this imprint.
  4. Place patties over direct, high heat on your grill and cook for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Flip and move burgers to indirect heat 2-3 minutes before they are done. Top with blue cheese crumbles and close lid to allow cheese to melt completely.
  6. Transfer burgers to a platter and serve immediately on keto hamburger buns and topped with lettuce, tomato and avocado slices, if you’d like. Enjoy!
