Making these salmon patties in the air fryer is easier than baking them in the oven or frying them in a pan. What also makes them easy is you’re using canned salmon from your low carb pantry, meaning you probably have all the ingredients you already need on hand.

Salmon patties are one of my favorite ways to eat more fish, and these air fryer ones are a big hit in my family. I’ve lowered the carb count by using almond flour.

These salmon patties are so easy to whip up that all you need is about 10 minutes in the kitchen. They’re also great meal prep options and they do very well on the go. Originally, I cooked them in a skillet with a little oil. But then I tried the air fryer and, well, I’m never going back to cooking them any other way.

Also, you can eat these as a salmon burger if you’d like. Just top with lettuce, tomatoes and mild cheddar cheese, and you have a delicious sandwich.

Ingredients

First you’ll find the ingredients for making the salmon patties using canned salmon and other fresh ingredients. After that are the ingredients for making a homemade garlic aioli.

Salmon Patties

  • 14.75 ounce can of canned salmon, making sure to remove any obvious bones
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 2 stalks green onion chopped
  • 1/2 small bell pepper sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Garlic Aioli

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove minced or 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the ingredients for the salmon patties.
  • Form them into eight balls and then press somewhat flat
  • Place in an air fryer and cook for 10 minutes at 375 F.
  • While the salmon patties are cooking in the air fryer, whisk together the aioli ingredients — mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice and garlic — in a small bowl. Pour into dipping bowl and serve with patties when done.

Notes

This recipe calls for canned salmon. However, if you have salmon filets leftover from another meal, you can absolutely use that, too. Regardless of whether you’re using fresh or canned salmon, crush all big pieces into tiny chunks, which make it easier to form the patties. And be sure to remove any bones from the fish.

If you don’t have an air fryer or don’t want to use one, you can also bake this recipe in muffin tins as fritters. You’ll want to use shallow muffin tins so they come out more like burgers and less like muffins with a puffy top.
