Easy and Delicious Low-Carb Beef Taco Skillet

Pinterest Hidden Image

If you’re looking for something different, fun, and easy to do with regular ground beef, you’re gonna love this taco skillet.

I’m always looking for unique ways to cook up ground beef, so this recipe is perfect and full of flavor. You can dress it up any way you want, as long as you keep it keto-friendly! I’m always tempted to toss black beans in here but beans are not so keto-friendly.

If you aren’t too strict on keto, throw some in!

Different Ways to Serve Taco Skillet

This easy and versatile 30-minute keto beef taco skillet can be served in a couple of ways.

For a delicious main course, serve with shredded lettuce, salsa, chopped tomatoes, extra cheese, and some warm keto taco shells or large lettuce leaves for wrapping.

For a hearty appetizer, as shown here, serve with keto tortilla chips, pork rinds, or cheese crisps and top with diced tomatoes, green onion, avocado, and extra cheese right before serving.

Why I Love This Beef Taco Skillet So Much

First of all, I love that it’s so easy to put together. It’s ready in 30 minutes. You can’t beat that! I also love how full of flavor it is, and let’s not forget how wholesome and healthy it is, too!

Another reason I love this taco skillet so much is that you can whip it fast and serve it as a midday snack if you’re in between meals and feeling kind of hungry. It will fill you up nicely and hold you until dinnertime.

What You Need to Make This Taco Skillet

Grab your large skillet and these ingredients to make your keto beef taco skillet:

  • 1 T. extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ medium white onion, diced
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1¼ lbs. ground beef (80% lean)
  • 2 T. taco seasoning
  • 1 10-oz. can of fire-roasted tomatoes with green chilis, drained
  • 4 oz. shredded Mexican-blend cheese (+ extra for serving or topping)

How to Prepare Beef Taco Skillet

  1. Add olive oil to a large skillet set over medium heat. Add diced onion and garlic and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir to combine and sauté, stirring occasionally, until the onion softens and develops some color, approximately 4-5 minutes.
  2. Add beef to skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned, approximately 4-5 minutes.
  3. Add taco seasoning, fire-roasted tomatoes, and green chilis and stir to combine. Cook, stirring frequently, until the tomatoes are heated through and the beef mixture is thoroughly coated in the taco seasoning, approximately 2-3 minutes. Taste and add additional taco seasoning if desired.
  4. Remove from heat and top with shredded cheese. Cover for 1-2 minutes or until cheese is completely melted. Serve immediately with desired accompaniments. Enjoy!

Variations and Suggestions

You can use regular canned tomatoes in this recipe or, if you prefer, fresh tomatoes with chilies. If you don’t want it spicy, simply remove the chilies.

You can omit the onions if cooked onions upset your stomach like they do mine. I have to make this without onions, but added them in for those who love them.

You can top this beef taco skillet with avocadoes, mushrooms, scallions, tomatoes, and the cheese of your choice.
