12 Staples Every Keto Kitchen Should Have

If you want to stay in ketosis, you keep your keto pantry stocked. You know the saying, fail to plan, plan to fail. When hunger strikes, we’re prone to reach for the quickest, most convenient foods available to us. That’s why I try to make sure I NEVER run out of these things so that when hunger does strike, I’m reaching for the most keto-friendly foods available to me.

When you’re used to snacking or dessert like me, it’s not gonna be easy to break away from that and eat whole foods at every meal.

Let’s be real, there’s a lot of cooking that comes along with the keto diet.

While that helps to ensure that you’re always eating the healthiest meals and controlling the quality of ingredients that go into your body, it can take a toll on you. I’m not one to want to be in my kitchen every single day, so I meal prep so that I have cooked meals available to me on those days that I don’t feel like cooking.

I also keep a healthy stash of keto snacks and go-to food items in stock so that I can quickly throw something together when I lack the time or simply reach for a keto snack.

Here’s what I keep on hand at all times.

How I Stock My Keto Pantry

Eggs are at the top of my list, of course. I get the heebeejeebees when I run low on eggs.

Eggs are a staple of most keto diets because we eat them with nearly every meal. When we’re lazy, we eat eggs. When we’re making bread, we use eggs, when we don’t have a side for our steak, eggs!

I go through a flat of eggs (2 and a half dozen) every week. More if I’m making a loaf of bread or some egg cups.

Ok, so eggs aren’t really a pantry item. I just wanted you to know how many eggs you’ll be eating on the keto diet. So let’s go again.

Coconut Flour

I opt for coconut flour over almond flour for most of my baking because it’s less calories, less expensive and I love coconut.

Remember, you really only need a handful of nuts a day in your diet. Therefore, making a dish with a cup or more of almond flour seems a lot.

Even on keto, calories matter, and hey, so does your grocery bill. You can try this one as it’s less coconutty, apparently.

A great way to keep these items in stock without even thinking about it is to subscribe to Amazon Fresh.

Electrolytes

I take magnesium daily at night. It helps me to sleep better, helps keep me regular, and meets my daily recommended dosage since I’m sure I’m not getting enough in my diet.

It’s one of the electrolytes you’re advised to ensure you always top up on when on the keto diet, especially in the beginning phases when you’re going from burning carbs to burning fat.

Your body loses electrolytes pretty quickly on keto so it’s essential to supplement. I drink my electrolytes daily to help me feel my best.

Exogenous Ketones

I keep exogenous ketones on hand for days when I go over my 20g of carbs allotment. This helps to keep me in ketosis and burning fat even when there are carbs in my system. Score!

It’s great to have on hand when you have a cheat day or plan to eat out with your friends.

You can get these at any health food store or from Amazon.

MCT Oil Powder

MCT Oil Powder has replaced coffee creamer for me and whew I am so thankful I found this product. I always knew how bad regular creamer was for us but needed that creaminess in my coffee.

I switched to heavy cream when I started keto but discovered the goodness of MCT oil and decided to make it my creamer. I love the energy and mental clarity it gives me to complete my tasks plus I love that it helps me to meet my daily fat intake on this diet.

I use it in my baked goods as well!

Keto Chocolate Bars

So like I was saying about always being prepared…I always have these in stock. They come in super handy on days when I am my absolute busiest (or laziest) and simply do not want to or have the time to make anything to eat.

Best to grab a keto chocolate bar than fast food or a regular candy bar! Check out these yummy ones here with 3 scrumptious flavors.

To round out your pantry, here are some other items I keep in stock so I can always whip up my favorite keto recipes.

  • Pork rinds – for snacking and you can also crush them up to make “bread” crumbs
  • Keto test strips – helps me to know when I am in ketosis and what foods kick me out
  • Chocolate protein powder – I use these mostly in my hot chocolate and my mug cake recipes
  • Bone broth protein powder – to replenish the collagen in my body. Keeps my joints moving and my hair, skin and nails shiny and strong. Also makes my cookies chewy and delicious!
  • Probiotics – for gut health. Makes little sense eating all the healthiest meals if you’re not able to absorb all the nutrients!
  • Erythritol and Steviaketo sweeteners to sweeten my coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages and baked goods.

These are some of the items I make sure I always have on hand. What about you? What are your keto staples?
